Loogootee City Council Holds Board of Works Meeting Hiring New Emergency Dispatcher

The Loogootee City Council met on Thursday, February 13 for a Board of Works Meeting that took place at the Loogootee Municipal Building.

In attendance was Mayor Brian Ader, Dana Strange, Danny Clark, and the Police Chief of Loogootee Police Department.

Mark McAtee was not present at the meeting.

The City of Loogootee Board of Works meeting on Feb. 13, 2025, discussed the resignation of Mandy Selber due to specific family reasons that were brought up to the board.

Mayor Brian Ader addressed Mandy’s departure before getting into more topics during the meeting that featured a small crowd, and was live streamed on YouTube.

“She has to move back up north to be with family up there, because she’s really kind of out on her own now.” Mayor Ader said, “She just didn’t have any relatives or friends around here to stay with until she could, you know, locate a rental place or even purchase one. She’s going to be greatly missed.”

The board agreed Mandy did a “amazing” job in her position with many calling it “a shame” she had to leave the board to take care and conduct important family matters.

The Police Chief of the Loogootee Police Department addressed to the board the city has finally found a dispatcher that will take care of and address all emergency calls in the city of Loogootee.

Her name is Chiana G. and she will be the new dispatcher in Loogootee.

According to the board this evening, she has previous training and experience working for the department before. The board hopes to use her experience to help address important needs in the city police force.

Mayor Ader highlighted Chiana G’s extensive experience, including her work with the police department and as a dispatcher.

“She’s worked to jail for a 911 for years and years and years that I think she would be a good fit here, because she pretty much knows a lot of things have changed right since she’s been here as a dispatcher,” the Police Chief said to the board,

“… some of our policies and procedures and the way we operate now has changed a lot, but that John is really good at explaining everything and giving A good training program to her dispatchers, so she’s in good hands, and I think she ought to be employed with us, and she really has a great desire to do that.”

Mayor Ader along with the Chief addressed her experience that went way back to training with the department in junior high school, and then advancing to work in the Indiana State prison system.

The full description of who the new dispatcher is remains very vague at this time, but the Chief along with the board were impressed by her history.

In a unanimous decision the board approved her hiring, noting her familiarity with the department’s operations and her long-term interest in the role.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which was successfully seconded and passed by the board.
