Power has been restored to all RTC customers following a widespread outage in the Loogootee area caused by a truck collision. The incident involved a truck carrying an oversized load that struck power lines, damaging multiple utility poles.

According to a statement from Daviess & Martin County REMC posted on Facebook, the crash resulted in service interruptions for residents and businesses. REMC crews responded quickly to assess damage and begin repairs.

“We are currently experiencing an outage in the Loogootee area after a truck carrying an oversized load struck power lines, resulting in several broken poles,” the REMC message said. “Crews are on site and have begun replacing poles, but repairs are expected to take several hours.”

The outage also caused communication disruptions. The REMC office said phone lines were affected and advised customers to report outages via their SmartHub app or by calling a designated number.

By 1 p.m., REMC announced that crews had restored power to all affected customers, but phone and internet service is not working at this time. The swift response minimized outage duration and returned residents to normal.

Some communication channels remained offline for the rest of the day. The office was closed, and residents were encouraged to use digital platforms or the contact number for further assistance.

Dairy Master said in a Facebook post that the restaurant’s phones and credit card machine were out due to the RTC outage. Customers should pay with cash only and the store is not able to take call-ins until problem is fixed.

The incident highlights challenges utility companies face in responding to unexpected accidents that disrupt infrastructure. It also emphasizes the need for safety measures when transporting oversized loads.
