Shooting in Santa Claus Leaves Two Deceased from Murder / Suicide

Spencer County – On October 14th, 2025, at approximately 12:17 p.m., the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Jamie Adkins, age 48, stating she had just shot her husband. Officers with the Santa Claus Police Department, Indiana State Police and Spencer County Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence in Santa Claus Indiana. Officers attempted to make contact with the female but were unsuccessful. Officers then made entry into the residence. Upon entry into the residence, officers located a deceased male, John Adkins, age 49, with gunshot wounds and Jamie Adkins with a gunshot wound. Jamie Adkins was transported by ambulance to Owensboro Hospital in Kentucky where she died from her injuries.

This investigation is still pending. Autopsies will be conducted in Vanderburgh County and in Chrisney, Spencer County. All family members have been notified.
