LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Join the Fight Against the Mid-States Corridor Project
To the Editor,
On Monday November 3, 2025 at 8:30 AM the Dubois County Commissioners will meet and they will be discussing the Mid-States Corridor. I urge everyone opposed to the Corridor Project to attend, as I’m sure this will be an important meeting.
Don’t just attend and sit quietly, be proactive; but don’t be rude. Listen to what they are saying and then ask questions and confirm that the Commissioners understand the data in the Lochmueller reports. Make a point that prior to the Oct. 22nd INDOT Open House that close to 600 citizens attended several Community Events to oppose the project. Remind them that about 2,000 local taxpayers and voters have recently signed petitions to stop the project. If we can get the County to drop out of the RDA, it will make it extremely difficult for it to continue. Remind the Commissioners that belonging to the RDA is voluntary; and, their constituents are not in favor of the project.
Food for thought: about 10% of those of voting age, in Dubois County, have recently signed the anti-Corridor petitions. Over 200 people belong to the Property Rights Alliance (PRA) and more are joining all the time.165 local residents, tax payers and property owners have been sued by the State’s Attorney General, for exercising their rights to free speech and protecting their private property. The cities of Huntingburg and Jasper have agreed to spend over $100,000 to “study” the cost impact for INDOT’s demand for relinquishment of US 231, before the Mid-States Corridor is a fully funded official highway project. And, let’s not forget that the “private donors” who funded the original RDA are all secret. We don’t know what companies, businesses or private individuals donated $3.5 million to the RDA.
The Mid-States Corridor is an unwanted and unneeded highway. By Lochmueller’s own reports it does not meet it’s intended objectives. It does not save time. It will not ease congestion. It will not remove large truck from city streets. It will not be a safer highway. It will not connect us to anything we are not already connected to. And, it will cost us $3 billion.
Let’s all attend an early morning Commissioners Meeting. Let’s make them listen to the facts, again. Let’s voice our opposition. And, then we can all go have breakfast knowing that once again, we, the people, are doing what we can to bring some sanity and common sense to our community.
