Loogootee High School’s Jack Butcher Arena was brimming with energy as over 5,000 passionate fans packed the venue to watch a crucial sectional basketball game, vying for a spot in the Semi-Finals. The intense matchup ended with the Barr-Reeve Vikings overcoming the Lions with a final score of 48-35, earning them a ticket to the quarterfinals scheduled for Friday night. The Vikings’ next opponent will be determined by the outcome of the ongoing Orleans vs. Vincennes Rivet game.
In the first half, the game was tightly contested, with neither team gaining a significant edge. However, the second half echoed last year’s sectional loss to Orleans, when the Lions fell 49-33. Barr-Reeve faced offensive struggles in the fourth quarter, going 0-for-2 from the free-throw line. Despite this, they maintained a strong shooting performance overall, going 13-for-20 from the field in the second half.
At the start, Barr-Reeve opened with a narrow two-point lead. They managed to extend this advantage to 34-26 before maintaining their composure and ensuring the victory. The Lions’ offensive efficiency waned in the second half as the Vikings improved their shooting, making 13 of 20 field goals during that period.
Carson Yoder contributed six points for Barr-Reeve, while Cooper Van Hoye led the Lions’ scoring effort with 12 points. Loogootee shot 9-for-19 from the field; however, Will Lyon was held scoreless throughout the game.
The Lions will finish their season with a 15-9 overall record and a 4-3 Blue Chip Conference record, finishing fifth in the Conference standings.
Barr Reeve will improve to a 22-1 record with a chance to possibly win a Sectionals title.
With this victory, Barr-Reeve advances to the Sectional Semi-Finals, where they will prepare for their next game scheduled for Friday night.
