LOOGOOTEE, Ind.- A proposal for a new apartment in Loogootee aims to enhance real estate and job opportunities near downtown Loogootee.
On Wednesday, the City of Loogootee announced on Facebook the city is holding a public meeting on Thursday, October 25 at 5 pm at the Loogootee Methodist Church Fellowship Hall on Main Street.
The idea is to build a 50 unit apartment complex in the city. There was little known about the project at this time as the idea has been in development to build new apartments in the city.
The proposal has been organized by Joe White, the President and CEO of JBH Ventures, co-developer with Sullivan Development. He is also the owner of the Oak Street Village project plan, and is open to discuss any and all ideas to the public about the new project.
The Council reported in a Facebook post which featured a letter White sent to the city council a few hours ago.
The letter read White’s organization will be opening a 50 unit apartment complex in Loogootee. This goes into detail about how the project will start as a small operation and then grow as time goes on.
White said that he will have residents go through intense screenings including, but not limited to, needing proof residents are able to be interviewed, screened for proof of employment, citizenship, and to not be registered as a sexual offender or you will be kicked out of the selection process, according to the letter.
The letter also went into more detail about the income limit to live at the apartment complex once the proposal goes through.
This is not a section eight apartment nor funding by Housing Urban Development center or the federal government, but one needs to make around $19,000-$54,000 with a median household income to quality meeting the requirements to live in the apartments by $46,000.
White said that he takes pride in developing new and improved job opportunities for the city and the nearby community.
These changes include providing residents with skills training, workshops, financial literacy courses, and resume building programs to help them get out of this housing.
