WAMW announced this afternoon that former Washington High School basketball coach, Gene Miller, will be hanging his headsets out as he will be retiring from his role as a color commentator on the radio for retirement.
After Miller retired from a 50 year high school coaching career, he hung his hat for a while before finding another calling games in the radio booth along side longtime anchor Dwayne Shake.
He was respected for providing his work from his long and extensive basketball record to the radio booth which many said he mastered at as a broadcaster.
WAMW Radio sent a statement out this afternoon stating:
“Most broadcasters dream of working with a hall of fame coach in their career, I had the honor of working with two! Dave Omer and Gene Miiller. Coach Miiller made it official as he announced to the team he is officially retiring after 50 years coaching high school basketball. Truly a class act and one of the best to teach the game. I have watched him turn decent teams into state contenders year in and year out. Always working with us and very appreciative of our coverage. This is truly BIG Shoes to fill. Coach Miiller congratulations on one heck of a run. Just know you impacted a lot of student athletes and broadcasters along the way! We will have a full interview with Coach Miiller this weekend on Focus on the Community Saturday and Sunday on WAMW. Enjoy retirement Coach, you deserve it!”
