Storm Shelters Are Now Open in Martin County

The Martin County Sheriff’s Office in Loogootee & Shoals, Indiana has reported there are storm shelters located at The West Shoals Church of Christ along with St. John’s Catholic Church & the Conerstone Community Church in Loogootee and Shoals, Ind. for those who are either homeless, sick, have no home, or for those who are still stranded after the March 14-15 tornado that struck in town two weeks ago.

The Sheriff’s Office wrote the following statement to Facebook for anyone that will be affected by the following storms on Sunday and Wednesday this week. They also advise to comment on this post to Facebook in case emergency systems become flooded with calls for help.

They wrote the following statement to Facebook around 2 pm this afternoon:

“With talks of another round of severe weather headed our way area churches are opening their doors for public shelter.

Other locations are being talked about as possible shelters.

If you have confirmed information of a shelter location for this storm please share in the comments.

When large scale storms hit the area the dispatch center quickly becomes very busy and pushed beyond its capabilities.

If you need to report something minor like a tree in a roadway within the first couple hours of the storm hitting feel free to put that in the comments of this post.

Fire, EMS and Law Enforcement are standing by to respond to emergency calls and try to bring life back to as normal as quickly possible.”
