According to the latest information from one of my sources from the Monroe County Emergency Alert System, the National Weather Service on a conference call about the storms coming in tonight, here is what we learned:
– Strong damaging winds including straight line winds are very possible.
– Isolated tornadoes are possible with a significant, long track tornado also being possible.
– These storms will come in very quickly and with force. They will be fast moving.
– Timing will be between 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM
– The highest threat remains along and south of the Sullivan-Bloomington-Greensburg line.
- In Loogootee, Martin, and Daviess County region tonight, the highest risk will take place near Washington & Vincennes with straightline damaging winds and hail being a possibility after or around 5 pm.
If you have plans to travel south tonight, please make sure to have an action plan. You do not want to be driving in these storms due to the potentially very damaging and strong winds.
For everyone in the county, have a plan in place in case a warning is issued.
Have several ways to receive warnings including to sign up for Loogootee’s SMS alerts systems to recieve up to date information, listen to radio stations, watch Ryan Hall Y’all, and go to forums such as Cody Kirkpatrick on Bluesky for the latest in severe weather across Bloomington & Loogootee.
Don’t rely on the outdoor warning sirens as your only source.
Be prepared for power outages!
Be prepared and stay weather aware!
