Loogootee Volleyball Loses in Semi-State In A Straight Set Defeat

JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind.- The Loogootee Lady Lions’ 2025-26 volleyball season concluded with a semi-final loss to Springs Valley High School at Jennings County High School in Mount Vernon, Ind. The Blackhawks defeated the Lions in straight sets, 25-16, 25-19, 25-11, ending Loogootee’s playoff run. Springs Valley, with a 28-4 record, delivered a strong performance, avenging an earlier-season loss to the Lions back in September.

Loogootee, which reached the semi-state for the first time since 2020, faced a formidable opponent in Springs Valley, known for its high-powered offense and 28-4 regular season record. However, the Blackhawks’ entire volleyball team showed that they were one of the best teams in Class 1A this season.

The team presented well-executed plays and an aggressive defense that proved too much for the underdog Lions.

The match was a dominant display of skill and determination, with Springs Valley establishing control early on. Despite knowing the challenge ahead, the Lions fought hard but ultimately couldn’t match the Blackhawks’ intensity. The loss left many fans in shock, though some anticipated a tough battle against a seasoned team.

With this loss, the Lions are headed back to Loogootee. As for Springs Valley, they advance to the IHSAA Class 1A Volleyball Semi-State Championship Game against the winner of the Trinity Christian vs. Greenwood Christian game at 7 p.m. This game is officially underway as of the writing of this article.

Their advancement capped the Lions’ season at the semi-state level and was seen as a successful campaign. This was a magical ride, and it has been a pleasure to cover this team, but one thing we can say about this team is how much fun they had this season.

While their run ended without a state championship, the Lady Lions’ 2025-26 volleyball season will be remembered for its achievements, fun character, and spirited competition. The Lions team’s time in the spotlight set the stage for the next group of Seniors to fight and one day win a State Championship, with expectations high for continued excellence.

The 2025-26 Loogootee Lions volleyball team closed the season with a 14-17 record, 5-2 in Conference play, ranked third in the Blue Chip Conference.
