Loogootee Coach Brian Smith Selected for IBCA All-Star Staff

Loogootee Girls Coach Brian Smith has been selected for the IBCA Girls All-Star game coaching staff, according to a statement from Loogootee Athletics. The announcement congratulated Smith on the honor.

Smith, who has compiled a 152-111 record over 11 seasons at Loogootee, led his team to a 16-7 record last season. His teams have secured three Blue Chip Conference titles (2018, 2020, 2021), two sectional titles, two regional titles, two semi-state appearances, the 2020 Class A state championship, and a runner-up finish in the 2021 Class A state tournament.

He was named HBCA District 1 Coach of the Year in 2019 and IBCA girls’ District 3 Coach of the Year in 2020. Additionally, Smith served as head coach for the 2021 Junior All-Stars and as an assistant for the South Team in the 2023 All-Star Futures Game.

A 1991 graduate of White River Valley High School, Smith participated in basketball and cross country before earning his bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University in 1997.

Smith began his coaching career in 1999 at White River Valley, serving as a boys’ basketball assistant for seven seasons before becoming the boys’ varsity coach at Shoals in 2007. There, he led a rebuilding program, ending his tenure with a 36-90 record over six seasons. He has been the girls’ coach at Loogootee since 2015.

He has also worked as a health and physical education teacher at Shoals Junior-Senior High School for 19 years and is in his 27th year of teaching overall.

Smith and his wife, DeAnna, have two sons—Nick, 25, and Jacob, 22.

Loogootee Community Schools and Loogootee Lady Lion Basketball team expressed their congratulations on the coaching staff appointment.
