Remembering Charles Jim Fields: A Tribute to a Beloved Mechanic

Charles James “Jim” Fields, 63, of Loogootee, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at his residence.

Born on July 1, 1962 in Washington, Indiana, he was the beloved son of Charles and Anna (Kaiser) Fields.

Jim was a 1981 graduate of Barr-Reeve High School, where he excelled in track and cross-country. He developed a lifelong passion for all things automotive, becoming a skilled mechanic and taking great pride in his work. Jim built a dedicated career as a truck driver, specializing in hauling long beams across state lines for CLR Construction-a role he approached with commitment and professionalism.

Jim also found great joy in the outdoors and appreciated the simple pleasures of nature. In 2022, he was baptized into the Christian faith.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his former wife, Debbie Fields, and one sister, Charlotte Rose Russell. He is survived by his sister, Carol Ann (Jason) Jones; Six nieces and nephews: Ryan Fields, Amanda (Jerry) Oakman, Sarah Troutman, Kyle Russell, Beau (Sierra) Russell, and Travis (Nichole) Troutman; Four great-nieces and nephews: Darion Oakman, Dalton Oakman, Jade Fields, and Kaden Pendleton.

A private family burial will take place on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Loogootee, Indiana.
