
SHOALS, Ind. — The Martin County Highway Superintendent was arrested last Saturday night on multiple charges, including official misconduct and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to jail booking records.
Scott Seals, 56, was booked into jail facility at 11:38 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, following an outright arrest, and was released out of custody on June 28.
According to the official booking documentation detailed above, Seals faces a Level 6 felony charge of official misconduct, a Level 6 felony in Indiana carries a potential penalty ranging from six months to two and a half years in prison.

In addition to the misconduct charge, Seals faces two misdemeanor traffic offenses: a Class A misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, endangering a person, and a Class C misdemeanor charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Seals has served as the superintendent of the Martin County Highway Department, where his duties include overseeing the maintenance and upkeep of hundreds of miles of county roads, bridges, and local infrastructure projects.
An email tip sent to The Loogootee Times by a concerned citizen alleged that Seals was drinking on the job prior to his arrest.
The Martin County Highway Department and local authorities in Martin County, Ind., have not yet released an official statement regarding the specific circumstances leading up to the traffic stop, the citizen’s allegations of on-the-clock drinking, or whether Seals was operating a county-owned vehicle at the time of his arrest.

Under Indiana law, all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
