Boys Tennis: Lions Enter IHSAA Sectional Week

The postseason has arrived for the Loogootee Lions boys tennis team. Following competitive late-season duals, varsity and JV players hit the practice courts at the Rick Graves Tennis Complex today to fine-tune doubles communication and singles consistency ahead of official IHSAA sectional draw announcements and tournament play.

Lady Lions Volleyball: Hard-Fought Conference Clash with Barr-Reeve

The Loogootee Lady Lions hosted neighboring Blue Chip Conference rival Barr-Reeve at Jack Butcher Arena. The Lady Vikings took the match in a competitive 3-0 sweep. The Lady Lions hold film review and recovery sessions today before resuming regular-season preparations for upcoming conference and tournament matchups.

Middle School Cross-Country: Boys State Berth & Individual Qualifiers

Loogootee Middle School runners continue momentum heading into the final three meets of the season. The boys team enters the week celebrating their full team state qualification achieved with a 60:02 aggregate time at South Knox, anchored by Griffyn Thompson (10:52), Chayse Houston (11:16), Liam Hilligoss (12:10 PR), Ryder Davis (13:04 PR), Aden Summers (14:08 PR), and Wyatt Flammer (15:02 PR).

On the girls’ side, Embry Wade prepares for the state meet after punching her ticket with a 19th-place 12:50 finish, supported by strong personal bests from Lyric Graber, Trinity Kerns, Everlye Jeffers, Avrie Bratton, and Harper Tinkle.

Martin County Community Foundation Awards $34,076 in Q3 Grants

The Martin County Community Foundation announced the awarding of $34,076 in Impact and Boost Grants to four area non-profit and educational organizations during its third-quarter 2026 grant cycle. In addition, the Foundation opened $55,000 in conditional grant opportunities for upcoming local community capital projects.

• Elsie “Irene” Elliott (Loogootee): Longtime community resident Elsie “Irene” Elliott, 93, of Loogootee (Alfordsville High School Class of 1953), passed away peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 26. Arrangements are under the direction of local funeral services.

County Budget Adoption Scheduled; Shoals Prepares IDEM Talks
