Grease Spill Closes Broadway Street in Loogootee

LOOGOOTEE, Ind. (July 29, 2025)- A section of Broadway Street in Los Bravos was temporarily closed due to a grease spill, according to local authorities.

The grease spill occurred near the Los Bravos and Dairy Master restaurants on West Broadway Street in Loogootee this afternoon.

The fire department diverted traffic away from the area to ensure safety as cleanup efforts commenced. “Use caution in the area of Los Bravos on Broadway Street this morning into the afternoon,” an official warning told everyone on Facebook.

Loogootee Fire Department personnel, along with contracted workers from the cleanup company, Hoosier Spill Response, worked diligently to contain and clean the spill. At 12:45 p.m. this afternoon, workers were still on the scene, actively managing the cleanup. After nearly an hour of ongoing work, the road was finally reopened to the public around 2 p.m. this afternoon.

The incident caused minor disruptions in traffic flow but was swiftly addressed by emergency crews. Authorities urged drivers to remain cautious as they navigated the area during the cleanup process. The grease spill, which occurred earlier in the day, prompted swift action to prevent any further hazards or accidents.

Traffic was rerouted to facilitate a safe and efficient cleanup operation. “Please drive slow, and be aware of Fire Department Personnel and contracted workers in the area,” a spokesperson advised on the Loogootee Fire Department’s Facebook page this afternoon. The quick response by fire crews and cleanup crews helped minimize the duration of the closure, allowing normal traffic conditions resumed back to full operations this afternoon.

Officials have not yet identified the cause of the spill but assured the public that the situation was under control.

The reason why the spill happened is unknown at this time.

The Fire Department reported there were no injuries or accidents reported, and authorities continue to monitor the scene until the area is completely safe.
