Jacqueline Ella Jane Mattingly, 80, of Loogootee, IN, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, surrounded by a plethora of loved ones. Jane was the daughter of the late Paul E and Mary J (Miller) Baker. She was born on June 19, 1946, and grew up as one of twelve children in Indianapolis, Indiana where she graduated from George Washington High School, Class of 1964.
On October 30, 1965, Jane married the love of her life, the late Gerald Patrick Mattingly Sr at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Indianapolis, IN. Shortly after, they settled down in Loogootee, IN where they built a life surrounded by love, family, and community. Jane was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Barr Township, where she served on the Altar Society, was a Catechist and received the Brute Society award in 1994. She was a current parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Parish.
Jane was a homemaker until the loss of her husband in 2001. Shortly after, she took on the secretarial role in the family business, Mattingly Feed Store in Loogootee, IN from 2002 until its closing in 2020. In this role, not only did she help keep order in a building surrounded by men, but she also looked after the resident cats and kittens and occasionally hosted some rowdy interns, her grandchildren.
Jane was an avid listener of George Strait, though she wasn’t a fan of “All My Ex’s Live in Texas,” something her family only recently discovered. Every evening between 7:30-8:00 pm, her family and friends knew not to call and interrupt her watching Jeopardy; she almost never missed an episode. Jane loved her Coke and Big Red, Red Hots, the HGTV channel, and was ironically known for always having ladybugs around.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 36 years, and siblings Patricia L Baker, Paul Baker, Vesta Fields, Robert Baker, Marilyn Campfield, Lowell Baker, Marion A Baker, and Edward Baker. Jane is survived by her siblings Martha Hilda Sparks, Doyle (Becky) Baker, and Constance Hughes; children Mary Jo (Dennis) Gries, Gerald Jr. (Peggy) Mattingly, Angela (Paul) Kaiser, Marlena (Brian) Harvey, Deanna (Matthew) Hopper and foreign exchange daughters Anna Santos and Cristina López, both of Spain; grandchildren Ella Gries, Tonya (Jared) Mathies, Nikki (Jorge Caldera) Gee, Brett (Caitlin) Mattingly, Gage (Kayetlyn) Mattingly, Katelyn (Alexander) Drischel, Courtney (Jonathan) Theis, Mallory Hopper; great grandchildren Haylie (Scott) Betz, Landon Mathies, Leo and Isaiah Caldera, Frances, Faye, and Phoebe Mattingly, Tyson and Bristol Mattingly and Callum Drischel.
The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks and appreciation to the wonderful caregivers and staff at Poplar Care Strategies in Loogootee, Indiana and Heart to Heart Hospice in Jasper and Corydon, Indiana as she referred to all of them as her “Angels on Earth”.
Visitation will be held at Blake Funeral Home, Loogootee, IN on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 1:00 P.M until 5:00 P.M. and again on held on Monday, July 20, 2026, from 9:00 A.M until 10:45 A.M at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Loogootee, Indiana, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated by the Very Rev. J. Kenneth Walker. Jane’s final resting place will be held at St Mary’s Cemetery, Barr Township.
