LOOGOOTEE, Ind. — The Barr-Reeve varsity volleyball team delivered a dominant performance on the road Friday night, sweeping rival Loogootee in straight sets during a Blue Chip Conference matchup.
The Vikings took control from the opening serve and never looked back, putting away the Lions 25-12, 25-18, 25-9 to seal the 3-0 sweep.
From the first set, Barr-Reeve established rhythm at the net and applied steady pressure from the service line. Capitalizing on early unforced errors and quick transition attacks, the Vikings pushed past the host Lions to take the opening frame 25-12.
Loogootee mounted its strongest resistance in the second set. Bolstered by the home crowd, the Lions settled into their defensive rotations, scrambled for tough digs, and traded side-outs through the early and middle stretches of the set. However, Barr-Reeve’s depth and sharp passing allowed the Vikings to pull away in the final points, claiming the frame 25-18 and placing Loogootee in a two-set hole.
Carrying the momentum into the third set, Barr-Reeve clamped down defensively and unleashed a flurry of unanswered scoring runs. Finding gaps in the Lions’ coverage and neutralizing Loogootee’s attack before it could develop, the Vikings raced out to a commanding advantage, eventually closing out the set and the match with a 25-9 rout.
The straight-set victory marks another pivotal conference tally for Barr-Reeve, while Loogootee looks to recalibrate its offense and back-row communication as both programs gear up for the final stretch of regular-season play leading into the IHSAA sectional tournaments next month.
