LOOGOOTEE, Ind. — An estate sale and memorial service are scheduled to honor the life of Alice Mae “Holt” Jones, a beloved community figure and family matriarch. The estate sale will take place at 453 North 1300 East in Loogootee this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., with all items marked for sale.
Jones, who passed away on September 8, 2025, at the age of 73, was known for her compassion and dedication to her family and friends. The estate sale will be held at her residence, where she accumulated a wide array of possessions. “You name it, she probably has it,” said a family member, highlighting the variety of items available.
A memorial service for Jones is scheduled for Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Methodist Church in Loogootee. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate her life. The service will include references to her faith, although Jones was known to have attended the First Church rather than the Methodist Church where the service is planned.
Jones was born on February 24, 1952, to Ermin and Vera Holt. She is survived by her children — Angela “Angie” Davenport, Tanya Baker, James “Jimmy” Hawkins Jr., and Adrienne Hawkins — and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren include April Lynn Taylor, Daniel Schmidt, Augie Fitzpatrick, Kaitlyn Gray, Titus Hawkins, and Petrah Hawkins; her great-grandchildren are James Taylor and Finn Fitzpatrick.
Throughout her life, Jones was remembered for her indomitable spirit and unwavering optimism. “Even in the face of adversity, her spirit shined through,” said a family friend. Her legacy extends beyond her immediate family to include her brother, Ermin “Buddy” Holt Jr., her sister, Janet Watson, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Jones was preceded in death by her husband, James “Dave” Jones; her parents; her brother, Steven Holt; her sister, Judith “Judy” Sheetz; and her brother-in-law, Doug Sheetz.
Contributions in her memory can be made to the Martin County Humane Society. For online condolences and memorial messages, visit www.fredrickandson.com.
