U.S. Highway 231 has reopened after a temporary closure caused by a traffic crash north of Walton Greenhouses near 100 S and Mount Pleasant Road.

Around 4:34 p.m., the highway was shut down as accident reconstruction and recovery efforts took place, during which those involved were airlifted to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Both northbound and southbound lanes between 100 S and Mt. Pleasant Road, mile marker 67.3, one mile south of Loogootee, were closed but have since been reopened.

Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes until the road reopened just two hours ago.

Details about the cause of the crash or whether additional individuals were involved are still being investigated.
