ANNOUNCEMENT: News Expansion Covering Loogootee, Shoals, Jasper, & Bloomington

We’re excited to share some big news about the future of our newspaper and our commitment to serving readers across Southern Indiana.

As many of you know, our roots are firmly planted in Loogootee and Martin County, where we’ve dedicated ourselves to bringing you timely news and in-depth stories about the people and events that shape our community.

Over time, we’ve heard from many of you—readers, contributors, and local leaders—about the need for more expansive coverage, particularly when it comes to the unique feature stories that highlight what makes our region special.

When my grandparents lived in Loogootee, they always got a Herald Times newspaper in the mail from Bloomington, and I loved how they wanted to expand their minds into reading more news than just in Loogootee. Journalism is created to expand minds and broaden awareness about the news around us, especially since some readers might have a relationship in these towns we will add to our coverage, and that is exactly what I am going to do as Editor-in-Chief.

With this in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that we are launching a significant expansion of our feature story coverage. This means more in-depth articles, profiles, and behind-the-scenes looks at the people, organizations, and events that matter most to you—not just in Loogootee and Martin County, but throughout much of Southern Indiana. Our goal is to shine a brighter light on the vibrant communities in Jasper, Evansville, and Bloomington, bringing you the stories that aren’t always told in the daily news cycle but are vital to understanding the spirit of our region.

To support this expansion, we’re actively building our team. We are pleased to welcome new writers, photographers, and editors who are passionate about storytelling and dedicated to delivering high-quality journalism. In particular, we are hiring new staff members based in both Bloomington and Jasper. These talented individuals bring a wealth of local knowledge and expertise, and they’re eager to connect with residents, attend community events, and share the unique perspectives that make their towns stand out.

This investment in people and coverage means you’ll soon see more diverse and engaging articles in our pages and online. From exploring local arts scenes and business developments to celebrating unsung heroes and chronicling hometown traditions, our expanded feature stories will offer something for everyone. We’re especially excited to provide more opportunities for local voices to be heard and to foster greater connections among communities in Southern Indiana.

As we embark on this new chapter, we want to thank our loyal readers for your continued support. Your feedback, story ideas, and encouragement have been instrumental in guiding our growth. We invite you to reach out with suggestions for stories you’d like to see, events you think we should cover, or people you believe deserve a spotlight. Our mission remains the same: to inform, inspire, and connect our readers, now with an even broader reach and a renewed commitment to excellence.

Stay tuned for new bylines, fresh perspectives, and expanded coverage from Bloomington, Jasper, and beyond. We can’t wait to share these new stories with you and look forward to growing together as a community.

Also be on the lookout as always on our weekly newspaper that will be live tomorrow, Wednesday, August 20 at 3 p.m.
