Middle School Cross-Country: Boys Punch State Ticket; Embry Wade Qualifies

The Loogootee Middle School cross-country squads competed Saturday at South Knox in the largest invitational of the season, toeing the line against fields of nearly 300 runners per race.

On the girls’ side, Embry Wade punched her ticket to state with a 19th-place finish, clocking a time of 12:50. Multiple Lady Lions recorded personal bests: Lyric Graber (13:56), Trinity Kerns (14:26), Everlye Jeffers (14:31), Avrie Bratton (14:56), and Harper Tinkle (18:23).

For the boys, Griffyn Thompson took 11th place (10:52) and Chayse Houston earned 20th (11:16), with both having previously secured their state berths. Liam Hilligoss met the individual state qualifying standard with a career-best 12:10. Teammates Ryder Davis (13:04), Aden Summers (14:08), and Wyatt Flammer (15:02) also set personal records.

Girls Golf: Lady Lions Place 12th at IHSAA Jasper Sectionals

The Loogootee girls golf team concluded its fall 2026 postseason campaign Saturday at Buffalo Trace Golf Course, posting a four-player team score of 481 to finish 12th in a 14-team field at the IHSAA Jasper Sectional.

Junior Jessica Pride led the Lions with a team-best round of 116 (57–59). Hattie Humerickhouse followed with a 117, highlighted by an outward nine of 56. Claire Wolfe (121: 61–60), Libby Schwartzentruber (127: 60–67), and Brynn Lengacher (135: 66–69) completed the lineup. Loogootee finished ahead of Tell City (486) and Crawford County (496). Boonville (391), Jasper (394), and Gibson Southern (428) advanced as the three qualifying teams.

🎓 Loogootee High School Class of 2006: 20-Year Reunion

Graduates of the LHS Class of 2006 will gather to celebrate their 20th reunion on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Loogootee American Legion Country Club (607 Church St.).

• Food & Drinks: Pizza and breadsticks provided; event is BYOB.
• Donations: Suggested donation of $10 per person via Venmo (@Whitney-Wagoner-3) or cash at the door.
• Charitable Mission: All excess donations beyond the cost of the event will be donated to a local Loogootee nonprofit organization.

• Family Fun Night: Multigenerational Fall Break Evening on Friday, Oct. 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
• Senior Scam Workshop: Taylor Tech scam presentation and tech support on Thursday, Oct. 22, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
• Halloween Night: Trick-or-Treat at the Senior Center on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Call for Businesses: Loogootee Pavilion Trick-or-Treat Safe Stop

The Loogootee Beautification Board and the City of Loogootee invite local businesses and civic organizations to participate in the annual Trick-or-Treat Safe Stop on Saturday, Oct. 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Loogootee Pavilion.

Merchants can support the event by donating candy, providing raffle prizes, or decorating a designated booth space to hand out candy directly to area youth. A community DJ will provide music starting at 8:00 p.m. To sign up, contact Tracy Stoll at 812-709-0498.

Crushed Glass and Resin Pumpkin Workshop (Oct. 7)

Traveling studio Artist Within will host a Crushed Glass and Resin Pumpkin Party on Wednesday, Oct. 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at 87 E. Spring St. in Bloomfield. Revival Gathering at Holiday Drive-In (Oct. 10)

A regional night of worship and unity will take place Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Holiday Drive-In Theatre (1055 State Road 37, Mitchell). Gates open at 1:30 p.m. with worship beginning at 2:00 p.m., featuring the CrossRoads Band, Rising Fire Worship Band, Pastor Bob England, and Pastor Greg Strother. Concessions run until 5:30 p.m. Attendees should bring lawn chairs; freewill offerings will be accepted.

Martin County Democratic Party: Silent Auction & Cookout

The Martin County Democratic Party opens its online silent auction today, running through Friday, Sept. 25. Supporters and bid winners can pick up their items during the Candidate Meet & Greet Cookout on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Hindostan Shelter House, featuring Senate District 39 candidate Joe Yochum.
